We love new drywall projects so if you are looking to cover up that old dark bead board in the basement now is a perfect time.
Silverstar takes pride in leaving the job clean and tidy. We know our customers notice and appreciate it.
Drywall is dusty, no question about it. If this dust is not contained in the work area it will be everywhere! One place you don't want it is in your heating ducts and furnace...actually you don't want it anywhere if it can be helped, which is why I take extra precautions to prevent that.
Dust containment shelters can be set up anywhere and are floor to ceiling plastic barriers supported by adjustable poles. Magnetic or zippered doors are used with this system to prevent most contaminates from escaping.
Carpet shield is a 2-3 foot wide adhesive film which is installed in work areas or areas of carpet where foot traffic will occur.
Rosin paper or builder board is 3-6 foot hard floor protection, also installed on floors in and to work areas.
Once the area is protected, it's time to get rock on! If you have a large project it could take some time. Usually ceilings are hung first, then walls. Small projects, repairs to a single room can be hung in a day but this can vary depending on the room.
When the sheetrock is hung and cleaned up it is time for joint taping. Any larger gaps between sheetrock panels will typically be prefilled with a setting type joint compound.
Tape application on larger jobs will be applied with automatic taping tools while small jobs will usually be done with hand tools.
There are many different types of joint compound with different purposes.
All purpose mud is taping compound but can also be used for the whole job. This is used basically as an adhesive to apply paper tape on the joints. It is also heavier and doesn't sand as well as other compounds.
I use "Lite" mud after applying the tape to the joints. multiple coats of this compound will be applied, allowing each coat to dry before more is added.
Once the joints are covered, I will go through the project and make sure all the inside corners at ceiling look good, adding mud where needed.
Sanding can break a guy! You apply too much mud you'll have a mountain of dust on the floor and probably need a handful of Ibuprofen that evening!
This is the least favorite part of drywall for most people but if minimal mud was applied its not so bad. A light sand over the joints and its on to the next step!
When sanding is completed and the dust is cleaned off floor and out of switch boxes its time to prime and paint.
Primer can be either rolled or sprayed on walls and ceilings and allowed to dry overnight unless its warm enough with ample air movement. When primer has dried it can be lightly sanded to remove any dust trapped on surface, then ceilings painted.
Ceiling paint is usually one coat of flat white, painted down onto walls a little bit.
Wall paint color and sheen is your call obviously. Two coats will be applied or more if required for coverage.
Once its painted, we cleanup, take pictures and let you enjoy.
